Truck 13

Apologies! I’m very, very late with uploading photos from Truck! Truck festival was brilliant. Weather was great, company was great, and of course the bands were great! There were loads of highlights for me, but in particular Mew and Pulled Apart By Horses were amazing. 65daysofstatic and Islet were also very good fun. I stayed in the barn most of the weekend because the line-up was just fantastic. The smell of poo couldn’t keep me out!

Saturday’s set can be seen here and Sunday’s here.
Speaking of festivals, if anyone would like to commission me for Offset Festival, please! :) I’ve been eager to snap this festival for ages and this year’s line-up looks amazing! You can email me at liupekkim@gmail.com. Cheers!
run, WALK!

I first saw run, WALK! a few months ago when they played with Young Legionnaire and Friendship. Eventhough they missed their soundcheck and arrived just as they were slotted to play (so that meant basically running in, unloading their equipment and playing right away) they were so good! The duo are still clinging on to their teens, but they have already produced some massive tunes.
At the end of July, I took some photos of the band before their set at the Old Blue Last with Talons and BATS. I’m so glad the weather was great that day!
The set can be seen here. Thanks to run, WALK! for letting me photograph them and to their friend Sam for lending me a cable for my flashgun (probably without it, I wouldn’t have been able to get some shots).
Next post, Truck 13!
Big Gay Scarecrow
I decided to create another blog so that I can post about things and photos that seem a bit out of place to post here. If you’re interested in my rambles and the like, you’re welcome to check it out!

If you’re wondering why it’s called Big Gay Scarecrow… I don’t think I can really give you a proper answer. It was a name I created in 2004 after watching ‘Batman Begins’. I used to use MSN Messenger a lot and I used to change my user name to really random things. Big Gay Scarecrow was one of them and it has stuck with me ever since.
Anyway, I’ve been spending most of today editing photos and sorting files out, so updates soon!

Kien needed a few quick, simple headshots done, so we found a relatively quiet spot in Soho and a brickwall.

Laura Marling @ Serpentine Sessions, Hyde Park

I first saw Laura Marling perform 3 years ago at Bush Hall. She seemed quite shy and a little unsure of herself then. but you could just tell that she had something in her. Now fast forward 3 years and my has she grown! Her voice has matured and has gotten more powerful – and indeed beautiful. She delivered each song with natural confidence and was clearly at ease on stage last night. Laura Marling can only get better at what she does from this point onwards.

Bo Ningen @ Cafe OTO
22nd June 2010
Bo Ningen is definitely one of my favourite bands at the moment. On Tuesday, they put on a special gig at Cafe OTO and had some special guests perform; including Taigen’s mother Keiko Kobayashi, who is a folk singer in Japan.
Keiko Kobayashi has such a beautiful voice. So powerful and soothing. Beautiful. I also enjoyed Inu to Sanpo & Aephie and Sobameshi & Porno’s experimental music (Bo Ningen members’ side projects). Bo Ningen were great as usual and Taigen’s mother and friend (whose name I forgot.. :/) also joined in their set for a few songs.
I found it really sweet when Keiko Kobayashi spoke of Taigen. She mentioned how surprised she was to see how he has grown up to be the person he is now. You could see how proud she was!
It was a very different Bo Ningen gig – in the end, nothing was thrashed and most people watched the gig sitting down. It was very relaxed; a change from the typical evenings with Bo Ningen, but a very nice change! I saw quite a number of video cameras on a roll so I’m sure you’ll see some footage from the night online soon!
The lighting at Cafe OTO was pretty awful, so I had to use flash as the night went on. ‘fraid it wasn’t the best usage of flash though…
